Fresh Beat Band

It's true - the kids got to go to their 1st concert and it just happened to be their favorite band - The Fresh Beat band.

They were thrilled when they found out we were going to see the "Fresh Beats" and even more thrilled when they saw the outfits I had made them.

If you know me well, you know I love to dress the kids up for anything I can (especially Grayson). Grayson got to wear a blinged-out shirt with the FBB logo and her name on it. I made Garrison a shirt to match Twist's who is the "beatboxer" in the band. It pretty much took me a whole entire day to make the shirts - so I hope the kids loved them!

I have to say - the FBB did not disappoint. It was a wonderful show! High energy, a great audience and positive music. If they ever come to town again, I will most definitely take the kids again!

Disney on Ice - Rockin Ever After

Last week we headed down to Richmond for Disney on Ice - Rockin Ever After. It featured Beauty & the Beast, Little Mermaid, Brave and Tangled.

It was a much better show than I anticipated and Grayson truly enjoyed it. Although she has never watched any of the movies, the show still captured her attention and was easy to understand.

I had been getting ready for a garage sale earlier in the day and was going through some of Grayson's clothes for the fall/winter. I happened to come across a Tangled hoodie that I had picked up. I showed it to her before we left and she was thrilled. I typically don't have her wear clothes with "characters"on them - so this was sort of a "treat".

Garrison Is 2!

"You don't raise heroes, you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they'll turn out to be heroes, even if it's just in your own eyes." -Walter M. Schirra, Sr.

Dearest Garrison,

Today you turn 2 years old. And all I can think to say to you is: I love everything about you. I always have and I most definitely always will.

The past two years have been full of joy, laughter and ok, let's be honest - a few tears. I love being your mom. Being able to watch you grow and absorb the world. You are so inquisitive and always eager to learn. Each day, I look into your brilliant blue eyes and am reminded of the treasure you are in my life.

Looking back over the last year, I can't believe how much you have changed. Each day I get a glimpse of the man you will one day be, and I am already so proud. You are loving, warm, polite and friendly. You have the biggest heart of any two year old. You are everyone's (except for your sister) biggest fan. You love giving hugs, kisses and high fives.

I have always said you are a genius. But now I am absolutely sure. You have been reciting the alphabet since you were an infant. You can count to 30. You can spell your name. You know where you live. You can tell the difference between a violin, a cello and a guitar. You have taught me so much about construction trucks and dinosaurs. You somehow know the difference between an excavator and a backhoe and a scissor lift and a cherry picker.

Garrison, everyday with you has been a blessing. You and your sister are the best thing that has ever happened to your dad & I. You and your sister have made me the happiest, most fulfilled mom in the world. You, my son, are my hero and I will always love everything about you.

Happy 2nd Birthday.

My Cup Runneth Over,
Mommy

The Luray Zoo

Since it's Labor Day weekend and the last weekend before preschool starts for Grayson, we set out to do a little something different than the normal going to the park/grocery store/restaurant weekend. I wanted to take the kids to the zoo. Of course the National Zoo came to mind first. But honestly, I try will not go to DC during any kind of holiday. The traffic is horrible and yes, I am afraid of terrorists. That's the truth. There's no sugar coating it.

We ended up going to the Luray Zoo. It's a 4 hour drive r/t through the Shenandoah Valley. Garrison talked the whole way there and back. He was so excited to go to the "zoo zoo". Grayson, was quiet the whole way, except for telling Garrison he talks too much and is too loud. And the whole ride home she slept.

The zoo was small for sure. It had 5 monkeys, a tiger and the rest were farm animals and birds. It was okay though, the kids didn't mind. There was almost no one there, so the kids had free run of the place. Garrison chased around a goat and sat in an old abandoned jeep with it.

After the zoo we went across the street to a local pizza place, enjoyed some lunch and headed home. On our way home we did our normal "What was your favorite part of the zoo?" Grayson replied: "washing my hands." So next I asked Garrison. Garrison's reply: "washing my hands."

They held hands almost the whole time we were there. I think they were protecting each other :)

Their favorite part!

This may be the worlds most patient goat. Garrison was literally sitting on him.

It's a Joey Garrison :)
