A Day At The Beach (Well, Kinda)

M is at drill this weekend, so our normal weekend entertainment is left up to me. Gigi has been begging me to take her to the beach and I have been seriously considering taking the kids to the beach a couple days this summer. I have my reservations about taking them - the sun, the water, the sand.

Today we did a trial run. I took them to the river which has a sandy beach entrance. We brought along some buckets, shovels, a butterfly net and of course cupcakes.

Garrison didn't like the feel of the sand. He didn't cry or fuss - he just said it hurt his feet. Two of Grayson's most favorite things in the world are sand & water, so she was in heaven. She met another 3y old girl to play with and started her own bucket brigade. She definitely didn't want to leave - but Gio was hungry and all I brought was cupcakes (yup, Mom of the year).

She "dug" right in

He wasn't going to step off the towel!
He decided it would be okay to get his feet wet

Then splash around a little

He loved the mud - of course

Right before he fell into the water :)
Always such a loner

To Be Honest....

Yesterday I was inspired by this blog and a conversation with a friend about blogging. My friend had mentioned that on blogs - you only post what you want people to see. It's so true.

So I have decided to show you, what normally I don't want people to see. Actually, I don't even want to see. So to be honest... Here we go:
The kids made a 20ft long train track. To Be Honest... They are not supposed to have their "playroom toys" in the family room. It is a rule we usually enforce - today I just walked right by. And guess what - it is still on the floor winding from the tv, through the dining room & into the kitchen! Oh, well. (Oh & G picking her nose)

To Be Honest: Garrison at some point took his shirt off & I had no idea. He asked for a snack & instead of cleaning & cutting some fruits/veggies I opened up a bag of m&m's and when he was done I didn't wipe his face (see above). While I was busy attempting to steam mop the kitchen floor I heard him making sounds and turned around and found him playing with the bleach bottle.

You may remember seeing the playroom a few days ago in my Easter blog. To Be Honest... I cleaned it the night before Easter, because I knew we were going to be down there taking Easter morning pics. But, it usually looks like this. And, not because I don't have time to clean it - but instead - I just don't see the point.
Grayson who has been potty-trained for a year and a half now, put on her brothers diaper (backwards & over her panties). To Be Honest... She may be regressing. But I thought it was too funny! Instead of talking to her about it - I laughed, took a picture and let her wear it!
Usually, I would put this picture in today's blog. I would tell you how we had such a wonderful time feeding the ducks. To Be Honest... The ducks/geese would not eat our bread. Both kids were so upset and we went home 5 minutes after we got there. While, both kids screamed in the backseat.
A picture of G & I from this morning. To Be Honest... She wanted me to get up and go downstairs with her and I convinced her to stay in bed with the promise she could play with my phone and take pictures.

To be honest... this is how most of our days go. I plan fun stuff like feeding the ducks & it backfires. I find the kids doing stuff they aren't supposed to be doing (sometimes dangerous stuff). Some days, I don't discipline them when I should. I often don't feed them the right amount of fruit, vegetables, grains, etc. This was our real life today. And To Be Honest... I love these days!

Frying Pan Park

Today we met up with a friend of mine since elementary school and her daughter, Lucy. After all these years, they happen to live only about an hour from us. Also, Lucy and Garrison were due on the same day! But, Lucy came a few days early and well, Garrison came almost 2 weeks late. So - they are just days apart in age.

We went to a park/farm we had never been to before - Frying Pan Park. The kids had fun playing, riding on tractors and a carousel, and visiting all the farm animals (especially the baby goats that were born today!).

Easter 2012

Our Easter was definitely low-key this year. Gigi is still fascinated by Christmas and is always requesting to watch a Christmas movie and we usually don't go more than 24hrs without hearing a "Merry MissMiss".

She didn't know what to expect for Easter, but was happy when she awoke to the playroom/basement filled with goodies! Both the kids loved their baskets and were excited to find all of their eggs!

We went to IHOP for breakfast and then spent the afternoon at the park. It was quite perfect. The ice cream truck pulled up as we were getting ready to leave, so of course we decided we must stay a little longer. The kids were able to ride their bikes and we finished the day by grilling out and eating on the deck. Happy Easter!
