Hurricane Irene

Last week was a week of crazy weather. First an earthquake with a few aftershocks, then a microburst that destroyed the backyard and then my first (that I remember) and the kids first hurricane.

We were quite prepared for Hurricane Irene with food, flashlights, fueled up vehicles. Turns out, we didn't feel the effects of Hurricane Irene much at all. Just a lot of rain and wind. We did have a little hurricane party though as we all sat watching the weather channel. The party consisted of pizza and cookies!

Gigi was lucky enough to be invited to the neighbors for their hurricane party which apparently was much more fun than ours.. it had bowling, painting, and glowsticks! She had a great time and was excited to wear her rain boots all day!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

While M was out of town for work, I noticed my sweet lil Gigi was starting to act out a bit (or perhaps a bunch). It dawned on me that she was not getting as much one-on-one attention from me, as she is used to. Although I am with her nearly 24/7, her brother preoccupies almost every minute of my day. He LOVES for me to hold him and gets VERY jealous if I give Gigi the slightest bit of attention.

So my very dear sister offered to watch Gio, so I could give Gigi some of the one-on-one time she needed & so deserves. So on our girls afternoon out, we hit up Pots & Palettes where Gigi painted a plate & then onto Carl's for some custard (before dinner!) We had an amazing afternoon & Gigi did have an attitude adjustment by the time she got home.

It is so nice to have a daughter I can enjoy these kind of activities with. On the way home she kept saying she wanted to go do other fun things. I asked her what she wanted to do she said "um, go shopping." I love her so much & am looking forward to out next girls afternoon out. Can we say manicures?!

Earthquake

Dearest Grayson & Garrison,

Today you experienced your first and hopefully last earthquake. You both were about 20 minutes in to your afternoon naps when at 1:51pm our home began to shake. The earthquakes epicenter was about 40 miles from our house. The earthquake was about 3.7 miles deep and registered 5.9.

This was not the first earthquake I have experienced, but it was the most powerful. It was powerful to me not only in force but made me feel how strong my love is for the both of you, equally.

One day, you two will tease each other saying "mom loves me more." This is not true. Today it was proven. When the house began to shake, I had no idea on how long or severe the earthquake was going to be. Grayson you were upstairs in your bed & Garrison you were in your crib. As the shaking continued, I ran to the hall with a choice to go into your room Grayson, or your room Garrison. And, in that split second, with tears streaming down my cheek. I couldn't decide. Thankfully, the shaking stopped. I woke you both up, in fear of aftershocks and held you both tight. Grayson I tried to explain to you, what had happened.. but you are still to young enough to understand. The phones were out of service for sometime, so I was unable to check on your dad who was at work... which also had me worried.

I want you both to know.. how deep my love is for the both of you. There is nothing either of you could ever do to change that. My love grows stronger for you both everyday. I appreciate the gift both of you are to me and on days like today, when I am humbled by Mother Nature, it is more evident than ever.

Love Always,
Momma

The Farmer's Market

We spent a fun Saturday morning at the farmer's market. Gio was content riding in his backpack carrier, taking in all the colorful vegetables and checking out the Alpacas. Gigi made two reusable lunch bags (one for her & one for Bubby). The kids then played and played in the pretend shredded-tire garden, rolled eggs from a pretend chicken coupon, pretend picked blueberries, sat on a big John Deere tractor and ran around doing all the fun stuff the farmer's market has to offer. We ended the morning with some watermelon & a sleeping baby. There is no other way I would have wished to spend my Saturday morning.

To: Gigi's Future Husband

Dearest Gigi's Future Husband,

I thought of you tonight as I lay here next to Gigi as she is slowly falling asleep. I am sure I will be writing you often because there is a lot you need to know about my dynamic daughter. Here are a few helpful hints from the one who knows her best.

1. You will need a King size bed, because the sweet little thing, takes up the entire bed. She thinks she sleeps best diagonally.
2.  Two bathrooms will be a must, because she likes to spend a lot of time on the potty, washing her hands, brushing her teeth and looking at herself in the mirror.
3.  Any time you take her out to eat, make sure there is chicken nuggets, pizza, noodles, or peanut butter sandwiches on the menu. And, if you take her to Chick-fil-A, she will be yours forever.
4. You may want to think about buying stock in Zappos. Umm, now!

All jokes aside the truth is.. I love Gigi more than life itself. And, I trust you will also.

I want you to know I have prayed for you, even though right now you are just a little boy and it is going to be years before I even know you. One day -when you & Gigi have children- I suggest you do the same. Because, even though I do not know you, God knows who you are and hears my prayers.

You are so important to me already because one day, I will share with you, one of God's greatest gifts to me. And, when the day comes when you take my daughters hand in marriage, I pray that you will treasure her the same way I do & always will.

Love,
Your Future M-I-L

11 Months

"Ten tiny little fingers that always want to play,
That never stop exploring the wonder of today.
Ten tiny little fingers that from the very start,
Will reach out for tomorrow yet always hold your heart." ~Unknown

Dearest Garrison,

You are so close to one year old! Which makes me so happy, because you are becoming "you", right before my very eyes. But, it also makes me sad because I see you slipping away from being a baby.

So what are you up to at 11 months?
-You can walk & even run
-2 of your 6 teeth are chipped. One is from the bathtub, I am not sure about the other one.
-You have mastered the childproofing of the electrical outlets.
-I had to childproof the toilet, because you are obsessed with it. (Hopefully this will help when we begin potty-training.
-You can "bark" like a dog, blow kisses, wave, and are an incredible dancer!
-You weigh about 25lbs.
-You are now sleeping in your crib for 12hrs a night! Yea! Only waking up once.
-You love to play outside on your Little Tikes cube, in the sandbox and stealing tomatoes from the garden.
-You love to sing: Row, Row, Row Your Boat, Patty Cake, and Yankee Doodle.

In your short 11 months you have changed my world, and I am so proud of the little boy you are becoming! Happy 11 months Bubby. Stop growing up, mmmkayy?

Love You Always,
Mommy

Garrison's First Haircut

On Jul 26th (10m 11d old) Garrison experienced a major milestone.. his 1st haircut. I initially wanted to wait until he was 2 for his first haircut, but he was in desperate need. We still haven't cut any off the top though..

We are so lucky to have such an amazing Stylist in the family. Riley was able to give Garrison his first haircut in the comfort of our own home. I am also glad it was her because I didn't trust too many people to go toward him with scissors in hand. Riley did an excellent job!

With the help of a Jello straw, Garrison sat fairly still while we praised him & sang songs. He looks adorable with his new "do", he no longer looks like a baby... officially a big boy!
